Bait

That’s right! We are a BIG producer of bait! Last year alone we sold over one million pounds of bait to crabbers all over the country. We believe in ZERO waste products and that is exactly what we make. All of the carcasses that we make as by products are turned into a usable bait for crab pots and other pots alike.

We have a strict Zero waste policy here at Tropic Star Seafood. With processing nearly 20,000 pounds a day of Wild Florida Tilapia we create a lot of racks (Tilapia carcasses). In order to not throw this away, we freeze and store them daily for crabbers around the coast of Florida. They are mainly used for trapping Stone Crab and Blue Crab. This is as fresh as bait gets!

Sustainable Bait

We are pulling invasive species out of our waters and using every part of that fish. Most of our bait is sold locally to harvest the Florida Stone Crab. Our bait consists of mostly Tilapia racks (the carcass with both fillets taken off) that are packed in 60 pound cases and are semi-IQF. There may also be other fish that we have processed that are around the same size in the cases. Whichever fish we process, they’re frozen by the end of the day after production has ended. Most of these fish have been caught, processed and frozen all under a 24 hour period. This practice allows us to minimize the impact of our production on the environment around us and keeps waste to a minimum.

One Case, One Pallet, One Truck Load

We encourage at least half of a truck load for each order to cut down on shipping costs, but a full truck load is the best price. You can also pick up bait here at our warehouse. By picking up bait you can get just one case, one pallet, or whatever amount you may be looking for. We have lots of Blue Crabbers that come here on a weekly basis to just grab what they need that week. Whatever amount you may be looking for, let us keep you supplied so that you can keep doing what you do best. Please contact a sales representative to find out pricing today!!
